Sometimes it does take a while to show up and Google is getting a bit more controlled in when it DOES show your image next to your SERP entry. I believe their phrasing is something along the lines, “If it increases relevance by including it, then it is more likely to be included.” That is to say, if you always write about SEO, and your Google profile is setup and attached to an SEO page, you’re likely to see your image next to your search engine listing. However, if you end up writing an article about auto repair (and as above, your strength and what you’re really KNOWN for is SEO articles), you’re more likely to NOT see your image in the search results page regardless of your setup.

We’re personally seeing noticeably fewer images lately appearing next to SERP listings than we did a few months ago. The smiling faces next to some results have often brought increased attention to those entries – even if they WERE at the bottom of a page, but with minimizing returns on this… Who knows.
